half

An indigenous man moves through the bush hunting. Suddenly he stops short, mesmerised by a caucasian woman he sees dancing on the porch ....

When worlds collide where does a young boy stand?

Set in 1940s Victoria, Half is about identity, love, and finding where we belong.

Black. White. One fate.

During the 2016 edition of the Made In Melbourne Film Festival we ran an Indigenous Script to Screen Initiative. It was a competition where indigenous Victorians could submit short film scripts to the festival and one winner would have their script made into a film that would screen at that year’s event. Half, written by Wadawurrung woman Stephanie Skinner, was the winning script.

Teaming with threecatsinlimbo Productions, and bringing in local Melbourne filmmaker Saara Lamberg to direct, the festival worked with Stephanie to produce Half, a beautiful short film about identity, love, and our desire to be accepted by our actions, not our appearance.

Featuring striking imagery and a powerful call to look beyond the black and white, Half will resonate and question all of us on some level. After all, finding where we belong is a human need.
