No woman is an island

An educational documentary highlighting the diverse approaches and personal stories of five women in Malta in a bid to inspire hope for a more equitable future, while emphasising the universal struggle for women's rights and the pivotal role of younger generations in driving change.

THE STORY

Through candid interviews, each woman discusses how she manages to look outside the constraints of island life, find inspiration and solidarity in her beliefs and the changes she hopes for in modern day Malta.

Most importantly No Woman is an Island brings to light many current obstacles and injustices working against women in Malta — the denial of body autonomy and the current abortion debate and gender based violence steaming from traditional outdated ideas and expectations based around gender roles.

Questions around women’s rights in Malta are asked and answered in a bid to instigate much needed discussion and change for future generations of women and girls on the island.

On 14th of February 2024, No Woman is an Island was part of a Resist and Rise event held within the European Parliament, Brussels where a number of European MP’s were in attendance. The event included a discussions, film screenings and two marches.
